catching up...
now, you came here for one reason. u have no idea what the Hell im talking abt when i say 'heart flower' and 'precure' and 'cure blossom', or any other lore bits that are kinda essential to Eoto considering its. yk. a spinoff. so let's start at the very beginning:note: anything i will be copying and pasting stuff from online will be linked
what is precure/pretty cure?

pretty cure, or as shortened to precure, is a long running magical girl franchise that currently has 20 seasons that have ran throughout its history, starting with futari wa precure back in 2004.generally, precure seasons revolve around a group of teenage schoolgirls (middle schoolers most often than not) that are gifted with the ability to transform into a magical warrior called a precure. the goal of a precure is to defeat the main villains of their own season, and they are always occompanied by a fairy partner from another world!

an image of cure summer with her season's fairy partner, kururun!
the details aren't too important.. i just wanted to share a photo of kururun. but the gist is that every precure season follows the same formula of the precure working to defeat the villains while keeping their identity a secret. keeping this in mind, each precure season is centered around a completely different cast, with a new setting and main theme, with only a few exceptions.
alright, but... what's heartcatch precure?

obvious spoilers ahead for hcpc
heartcatch precure is a 2010 precure season that stars around tsubomi hanasaki, or cure blossom, and her friends erika kurumi/cure marine, itsuki myoudouin/cure sunshine, and yuri tsukikage/cure moonlight.

there's a lot to heartcatch (iirc, ~40 episodes) and while i adore this series, i do not trust my ability to explain everything to the best detail and if i did, i would run out of elements to use (again). so i'll just be covering the most important parts — heart flowers, the great tree of hearts, the desert apostles, and hcpc's ending.in heartcatch, every person has a heart flower, which is honestly pretty literal — everyone has an individual flower that represents their heart. when a person is troubled and undergoes negative emotions, their heart flower wilts.only the precure and the main villains of this season, the desert apostles, have the ability to see heart flowers.the great tree of hearts is a magical tree that directly connects to all heart flowers in the world. when a heart flower wilts completely, the great tree of hearts loses it's power. in hcpc, cure blossom and the rest of the cures are tasked to protect the tree of hearts, which had been severely damaged by the desert apostles causing everyone's heart flowers to wilt.

someone's heart flower beginning to wilt

the great tree of hearts, fully powered
the desert apostles are a villain organization that work for dune. for centuries, the desert apostles have strived towards turning the entire world into a desert, with no flowers or life in sight.in order to do this, they prey on those who's heart flowers are beginning to wilt, and capture them.

when someone's heart flower is captured it produces two products. the person themselves is held in a small glass ball, while the wilting heart flower is in a glass crystal.desertrians are monster created by the desert apostles, which use the negative power of a stolent wilting heart flower to possess an object, turning it into a large monster.
when a person is transformed into a desertrian, they aren't really conscious of what they're doing... however, they are able to speak about what caused their heart flower to wilt in the first place, which allows the precure to reason with them.the precure use their magical abilities to purify the desertrian and send them into a state of calm, stopping their heart flower from wilting.this is the basic premise of any heartcatch episode!TLDR: someone has a problem, gets their wilting heart flower captured, turns into a desertrian, the precure help the person fix their problem + give them their heart flower back, which slowly helps the great heart tree regain power.make sense? its a lot of info if you haven't watched... sorry!!!

an example of olivier being turned into a desertrian

olivier's desertrian getting purified
ill be glossing over the ending, but by the end of the series, tsubomi and co. were able to defeat dune and his small team of desert apostles, restoring peace to the great tree of hearts and sucessfully saving the entire world from turning into a desert. wooo (confetti)
got it. how does olivier tie in?
oh man. IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT.

'loup-garou' (later named olivier) and his father, baron salamander are characters who were introduced in 'HeartCatch PreCure! the Movie: Fashion Show in the Flower Capital... Really?!'.'loup-garou' is an orphan boy who, as far as canon shows, spent his life living in a parisian cathedral. what happened to his parents is unknown— but it doesn't seem like he remembers anything about them at all. he has no name, and no identity.one day, he travels to the depths of the cathedral's basement, managing to open a sealed tomb hidden away from the rest of the religious building. here he meets baron salamander, a man who then immediately takes him in, nick naming him 'loup-garou' (meaning werewolf).

the baron is a desert apostle, who was sealed away for hundreds of years by a former precure named cure ange. 'loup-garou' was able to release his seal, and so, 'loup-garou' joins in on the baron's quest to destroy the world. kinda heavy for a literal baby!while it's clear that the two care for eachother, their relationship is.... questionable at times, as the baron knowingly takes 'loup-garou' in to help him in his evil plots, even giving him the power to transform into a werewolf.his powers are heighted when there's a full moon. this is important!!!

the baron cursing 'loup-garou' to be a werewolf

from here, we see 'loup-garou''s frustration begin to form. even though he was taken in by the baron and followed him, he realizes that theres more to the world, and simply can't understand why the baron would want to destroy it so badly. this is where we see the rift between them begin to form.the beginning scene of the heartcatch movie shows 'loup-garou' betraying the baron by stealing the gem needed to power his wand, insisting that there's no reason to destroy the world. the baron simply watches as he flees from the scene, now on the run.
now, introduce tsubomi.

tsubomi encounters 'loup-garou' by chance as he's running away from some minions that the baron sent after him. compelled to help him, she immediately begins fleeing with him— something that annoys him more than anything.after being turned into a desertrian and being purified by tsubomi and co., she and the other precures let him stay with them at their vacation home. here is when the found family starts kicking in. yeah. good stuff.'loup-garou' bonds with all the cures individually, growing to care about them in the short time he spends with them. the one he grows closest to is tsubomi, who babies him and takes on almost a motherly or sisterly type role to him. though he finds this constant attention annoying, he chooses to rely on her when he struggles with his powers, even adopting the name that she had chosen for him; olivier, based off of his osmanthus heart flower.

more plot happens, but the gist is this: olivier returns to his father, giving him the crystal back. however, now motivated due to the friendships he's made with tsubomi and everyone else, fights with the baron, begging him not to destroy the world.unfortunately, a full moon hits, and olivier's powers go out of control. taking advantage of this, the baron uses his wand and his magic to TURN INTO A HUGE DRAGON. I KNOW. and destroy paris. the precures obviously head over to stop them.cure blossom/tsubomi is able to reach the overwhelmed olivier, who had been lashing out and attacking both her and cure marine. by speaking out to him and comforting him, olivier calms down, his powers now under control. together, they go together to stop his dad from destroying everything basically. yipee.

im getting tired and also running out of elements so im also glossing over the ending. essentially what happens is> the precure purify the baron
> paris is saved
> olivier and the baron make up
> the baron officially defects from the desert apostles
> olivier and the baron decide to continue to travel and go on a new journey, splitting paths with the precures.now, this ties together all the conflicts and keeps this movie's plot from leaking into the rest of the series. totally get it! except for one thing.I don't like it. Sorry not sorry.this is where the ending begins to change, and you can see how that plays out in our next section - the setting!
